At the age of 26, Esperanza Spalding is already a true celebrity – a double bass player and singer who has become a jazz phenomenon thanks to her versatility; author of a celebrated debut album on which she flirted with soul and groove and which put her on first-name terms with the likes of Stanley Clarke and Joe Lovano. For his part, Leo Genovese is a virtuoso pianist, a travelling companion of Spalding's, who has put his knowledge at the service of George Garzone, Lovano and Chris Cheek. Finally, the Cuban Francisco Mela, who has also been a sideman for Lovano and Garzone, has just put out his debut album with real masters from the New York scene. Together, they make up ELM, a real trio of aces who made their debut last October at Smalls club in New York. Three of the most highly praised jazz players of the moment appear at the Jamboree.
