European jazz, and in particular that produced in the Netherlands, is enjoying excellent health. So much so that today we can speak of young Tineke Postma as one of the great emerging figures of international jazz. An honours graduate of the Amsterdam Conservatory and the Manhattan School of Music, Postma, a follower of Dick Oatts, Chris Potter and David Liebman, among others, has been working on some of the most prestigious stages in the world since 2003. In particular, she has performed at the North Sea, Java Jazz, Yokohama Jazz, Red Sea and Eivissa Jazz festivals, among others, and has worked with Terri Lyne Carrington, the Metropole Orchestra, Esperanza Spalding and Mike Manieri, as well as winning awards at Midem, Antibes and the North Sea. She has put out four highly praised solo CDs in which she shows off the dreamlike, smooth, exquisite playing that has made her a true revelation on the saxophone, the most exalted of jazz instruments. She is undoubtedly a truly promising jazz musician.
