In the company of a trio of excellent instrumentalists, the guitarist Toni Mena presents his latest album, Quadern, released by the prestigious Fresh Sound label. Battle-hardened in venues like the Jazz Cava in Vic, the Nova Jazz Cava in Terrassa, the Jazz a l’Auditori cycle in El Vendrell or the Jamboree itself, Toni Mena’s quartet is outstanding because of what it offers melodically and harmonically and, above all, because of the dialogue he establishes with the trumpeter Julián Sánchez, a true master of the valve instrument. Mena and his boys construct evocative, elegant, polished music, which is anything but strident.
