What The Fuck!

Recapturing the spirit of the jam sessions that were held during the 90's in the same venue, in 2001 the musical activist Aurelio Santos launched the What The Fuck Jam Sessions, under ground-breaking principles, both original and radically different to a traditional jam session. To start with, he suggested devoting each session to a particular musician, who would set the dynamics of the session. He removed the seats from the stalls and designed the session with two clearly marked parts: one in which the band performs jazz classics in their acoustic form and one with electronic and hip-hop musicians, creating a fusion between the jazz and the more modern beats of Afro-American music like hip-hop, dub, groove, funk, and Afro-Latin music.
This concept, unprecedented in our country, has seduced artists such as Llibert Fortuny - a regular at WTF! -, Avishai Cohen, Mark Turner, Seamus Blake, Armand Sabal-Leco, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Albert Boverandr and Gorka Benitez. It has also helped to uncover new talent on the Barcelona jazz scene and, especially, to foster an appreciation among the younger crowd, who make up the majority of the audience. The WTF! sessions take place throughout the year on Monday night and have become one of the most popular sessions which are scheduled in the Jamboree-renowned for the long queues outside the club to get in.
Boldness, experimentation and the promotion of live music are the basic features governing this unusual initiative which is unique in the country and has existed for nearly 10 years. An alternative that has the support of a large group of loyal followers who fill the venue every Monday, obtaining figures that no other jazz club has ever reached. A new, radical, different concept in the jazz world, adapted to our changing times and the most restless audiences of our scene, a laboratory of ideas from musicians from Barcelona, translated into cutting-edge recording projects, a way of keeping the flame of jazz alive.
