Tarantos nights

With the intention of offering a comprehensive flamenco show, with no lack of toque, cante y baile, and of course, the typical musical forms of flamenco – a different cuadro is programmed every day of the week which, in most cases, is repeated four times a month. The performances are divided into half-hour sessions at 20:30, 21:30 and 22:30. The entry fee is 7€ (5€ with student ID). The affordable price of the tickets and the renowned quality of the musicians and dancers who perform there every night, has turned Tarantos into one of the most popular tablaos in the city, a place where queues tend to form Monday to Sunday for each of the three sessions, a place which attracts both foreigners passing through Barcelona and who have heard of the artistic quality of the shows and local fans of the show coming specifically attracted by the club’s line up.

When putting the club’s programme together, the managers of Los Tarantos take into consideration the academic rigor of each set, the working history of each member of the group and its ability to adapt to a standard format in which the viewer can recognize the most characteristic features of flamenco. It is definitely not a show that makes concessions for the tourist crowd, represented by amateur artists or of poor quality, nor a session directed exclusively at Andalusian scholars of the genre. This is a show for all audiences, conducted by a selection of certified professionals in the field of flamenco.

Among the artists who now regularly grace the stage at Tarantos we can find sound flamenco singers such as Alba Carmona, head of the cuadro Ropa Vieja, and Sara Flores-both with a solid career with performances in the  most important flamenco festivals, the plasticity of the dancers Nacho Blanco, Yolanda Cortés, Iván Alcalá and Iñaki Márquez-the latter considered by critics as one of the best dancers of the last generations of Catalan flamenco, guitar playing by Eduardo and Juan Cortes, and the fist rate percussionist David Dominguez, in demand to work with both flamenco and jazz artists.

All the musicians and dancers at Tarantos work within a venue with unique decor which preserves the most significant features that made the it one of the most welcoming venues in Barcelona in the sixties and seventies. In December 2009, architectural renovations were carried out in which the traditional central floor boards were moved to one side of the room in order to add the necessary features of a professional stage.
