The first of today's two programmes celebrates Schumann's bicentenary with one of his most important piano works: “Carnaval”. The pianist is also playing Albéniz's "Suite espanyola", which he has just recorded for Columna Música. Katia Michel, of Catalan/Swiss origin, won her first prize at the age of just 7. Trained among others at the Marshall Academy and the Liceu Conservatory, obtained a master's degree from the Yale School of Music, where she has also taught. Critics have highlighted her "high degree of musicality, poetic elegance and brilliant technique".
