SIA TOLNO Presents AFRICAN WOMAN - Jamboree Jazz

The Liberian Sia Tolno grew up in tough surroundings in Freetown. In a turbulent childhood, she took refuge in poetry and singing, and she began to stand out as a singer at school. The singer Stedy Bongo, one of the best-known artists in Sierra Leone, discovered her and included her in his shows as a backing singer. Soon, however, she had to flee to Guinea, where she began a solo career, singing a repertoire of soul and French songs in all kinds of venues. In 2002, she recorded her first solo album, Voix de la forêt, which became a hit. In 2008, she received first prize in the Africastar competition. Today, Sia Tolno is one of the most important artists on the African continent – a voice that shows the quality of popular music in sub-Saharan Africa.
