Description

“Organized by the AMJM, Friends of Jazz and Modern Music Association of Catalonia”

Among the new generations of Catalan jazz, the solidity of Laia Fortià is getting noticed. She is a very young musician who has followed Quim Solé, Aldo Caviglia, Ramón Ángel Rey, Jon Robles and Aníbal Martínez. Though still studying –she is currently a student of Marc Miralta at the Liceu Conservatory– Fortià has already handily mastered all details of drumming, and has played with the likes of Seamus Blake, Horacio Fumero, Llibert Fortuny, Elisabet Raspall, Raynald Colom or Gorka Benitez. She leads a number of projects, such as this one, Brownie Speaks, in which she reviews the works of trumpet prodigy Clifford Brown, without any wind instruments, but behind a one-of-a-kind vocalist –Clara Luna– who puts her voice to lyrics written by Fortià herself for pieces like Daahoud, Joy Spring, LaRue or George’s Dilema. A true challenge for one of the top jazzwomen of her generation, and one that is not to be missed.
