Born in Illinois, the daughter of immigrants from Rwanda and Uganda, Somi brings with her the legacies of the African continent and American jazz. Despite her youth, she has become one of the Sony Music label’s most highly prized assets, compared with early Miriam Makeba as often as she is with Sara Vaughn.
