Born in Cuba, a graduate of the Paris and Moscow conservatories and a prize-winner at the Paris and Lisbon competitions, Cecilio Tieles has been performing all over the world as a pianist, as well as giving talks and writing articles. He is currently a teacher at the Vila-Seca Conservatory as well as holding various posts in musical associations in this country. Today he devotes his programme to the Hungarian Franz Liszt, the greatest pianist in history, to mark the two hundredth anniversary of his birth. He shares the bill, however, with another great name, the violinist Niccolò Paganini, who inspired Liszt and who, like him, began the virtuoso revolution for his instrument.
