“Sketches of Catalonia” is presented as an absolute celebration of music in general and jazz in particular.  55 years on from the release of the legendary album by Miles Davis & Gil Evans “Sketches of Spain”, an anniversary coinciding with the 55th anniversary of the Jamboree Jazz Club, the 13th San Miguel Mas i Mas Festival wanted to recover one of the most acclaimed productions from the 2011 festival to give it a new treatment in the always wonderful surroundings of the Palau de la Música Catalana. Under the leadership of Joan Chamorro, an impressive big band in which the wind section is exclusively formed by members of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band will roll out a repertoire demonstrating the different stages in the music of Miles Davis, from the 1950s to the present day. And, as special guests, they will have a line-up of leading figures who fit the approach perfectly, like the vocalists and instrumentalists Andrea Motis and Magalí Datzira, the trumpeter Matthew Simon, the guitarist Jordi Bonell, the saxophonist Llibert Fortuny and the bass player Carles Benavent – the only musician in the country who has shared a stage with the genius that is Miles Davis. It will also see the re-release of the album put out in 2012 on the cover of the sadly missed magazine “Jaç” which Chamorro himself has completed the task of polishing. It will be a top-class opening in accordance just as two creative talents like Miles Davis and Gil Evans deserve, and, above all, a stimulus for this country’s younger jazz players from this country, supported by veterans better established in their craft.
